Beginning Blues
PRESTON MARX

Like the blues? Have the blues?  Want to learn the blues?  This workshop will look at the basics of acoustic blues which will bridge you into many other styles including rock music.  We will study 1/4/5 chords patters, turnarounds, use of dominant 7th chords, minor and major scales, movable positions in various keys, and shuffles - the foundation of blues and rock. – LEVEL 2-3

 


 

Music Reading and Theory – Introduction
JAMEY BELLIZZI

This workshop is an introduction to basic music reading and elementary theory for guitar.  Understanding how chords work together and basic scales will be covered.​ – LEVEL 2-3

 

 

Intro to Gypsy Jazz Guitar
SIMON LACE

This workshop will be an introduction on how to play gypsy jazz guitar. This style is most associated with the gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt, who found fame in the 1930‘s playing his own unique style of swing music alongside the violinist Stephane Grappelli. I will teach basic gypsy jazz chords and rhythms, and the class will learn Minor Swing by Django Reinhardt. This is for intermediate to advanced guitarists who have interest in playing gypsy jazz. – LEVEL 3-4

 


 

Let’s Get Started!
MARIANN SMITH

This course will introduce us to basic strumming techniques and singing, along with 2-chord songs.  Mariann’s level one, basic guitar class is a good ‘Kick-Start’ to anyone who want to experience playing and singing with the guitar for the first time. – LEVEL 1

Bluegrass and Folk Rhythm Guitar
KATHY BARWICK

In this workshop, we’ll look at some basic rhythm approaches for simple bluegrass and folk songs. We’ll start with some very basic theory to understand the “boom-chuck” used in folk rhythms. An important part of this will be learning how to use capos to both compliment our singing range and find the chord forms that work best. – LEVEL 1-2

 


 

Acoustic Blues
GARY BOWMAN

Students will learn elements of fingerstyle country blues, as Gary shares and teaches several traditional acoustic blues tunes.​ – LEVEL 2-3

 

 

Basic Classical and Celtic Styles
JAMEY BELIZZI

Introduction to fingerstyle guitar, basic techniques for classical & Celtic and steel string styles. – ALL LEVELS

 


 

Beginning Guitar
SIMON LACE

This workshop will be an introduction to playing guitar. I will teach basic technique, exercises, and chords, and I will touch on guitar history and music theory. This is for beginning guitarists with little to no experience. – LEVEL 1

The Great American Songbook
JOHN MASSEY

Students will be lead through the process of creating solo guitar arrangements of several iconic songs from “The Great American Songbook.”  Some of the topics covered will be bass and harmony lines, melodic and rhythmic variations, and chord choices and substitutions.  Basic ability to use standard music notation is helpful, but not mandatory, and one need not be a fingerstyle player to gain benefit from this workshop. – LEVEL 2-4

 


 

The Musical Alphabet and How to Read it on the Guitar
MARIANN SMITH

Come join Mariann in an introduction class to basic note reading.  In this beginner class, we will experience sight reading and playing a simple melody on guitar. – LEVEL 1

 

 

Jazz Chording
JOHN GIRTON

This workshop will concern Jazz chording as presented in the Mickey Baker jazz guitar book 1.  It will show new ways of playing chords that the average guitarist may not be familiar with. – LEVEL 4

 


 

Percussive Fingerstyle
FOREST BAILEY

This class focuses on different tunings for your guitar, such as DADGAD, and how to use them to your advantage.  The second half of this class will focus on the Percussive elements of an acoustic guitar, and how to “wake up the drummer.”  Students will learn how to play bass, melody and percussion on their guitar all at once! – LEVEL 3-4

Bluegrass Cross-Picking Guitar
KATHY BARWICK

Kathy will teach basic crosspicking techniques, while providing a review of specific uses for crosspicking in bluegrass and folk lead guitar playing. – LEVEL 3-4

 


 

Ear Training
FOREST BAILEY

A in depth look at the fundamentals of The Major Scale, Functions of Harmony and Ear Training. In this class you will learn how to figure out songs by ear, and finally unlock those notes you hear in your head! No experience necessary.​ – LEVEL 1

 

 

Looping
JOHN GIRTON

This workshop will feature the use of looping for practice and performance using the Boss rc-20 and rc-20XL loopers.  This is a basic “how-to use” workshop. – LEVEL 2-3

 


 

"El Toro Bravo" Songwriting
GARY BOWMAN & ANNA CAMPBELL

Students will learn essential elements of songwriting, while engaging in multiple activites to enhance their own songwriting skills.  A fun, participatory workshop designed for all levels. – ALL LEVELS
