Youth Development Basketball (YDL)

This is the youth basketball league in the foothill region. The eight-game season emphasizes skill development, teamwork and sportsmanship.

We’ll have inner-league play with selective grade divisions with Bear River District. Players are placed on teams according to school. Home schooled players will be placed on teams from their local school. Players may not play on a team from a different school (unless the league combines teams due to low registration).

Flyers and registration forms will be available at schools, online, and at ARD on August 1.

HOW DOES MY CHILD GET PLACED ON A TEAM?

Players will play with kids from their same grade at the same school (ex: Boys 4th grade Skyridge; Girls 5th grade H. Clarke Powers). P.C.O.E., home and private school children will be placed on teams of the public school closest to their residence.

MY CHILD WANTS TO PLAY WITH HIS FRIENDS THAT GO TO A DIFFERENT SCHOOL. IS THIS POSSIBLE?

Unfortunately, no it is not. In an effort to keep things as fair as possible, children will play with kids from their school/grade.

WHAT IF THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH PLAYERS IN MY CHILD’S GRADE?

In such cases, the players are combined with players from another nearby school to form a team. I need my child to be on two other kids team as we have car pool issues and/or

I WANT MY CHILD TO BE COACHED BY A SPECIFIC COACH. IS THIS POSSIBLE?

We try to accommodate such requests, but can not make any promises.

WHEN AND HOW OFTEN ARE PRACTICES?

Your coach will determine practice days and times. Our goal is to get each team two 1-hour practices per week, however this is not always possible. Some teams will have one 1 ½ hour practice per week. Discrepancies in practice times are attributed to the availability of gymnasiums in each school district.

WHEN DOES THE SEASON START AND END?

Practices start the week of December 3rd. Games are played on Saturdays starting January 4 and ends approximately March 15.

WHERE ARE THE GAMES PLAYED?

Games are played all over the foothill region, including Auburn, Loomis, Meadow Vista and Foresthill, Bear River and Cool.

WHAT DOES MY REGISTRATION FEE COVER?

The fee covers your child’s registration in the league, the rental fees for gyms needed, officials fees, participation medals and certificates. Your fee does not cover jerseys, shorts, shoes or team awards. Each player will be required to purchase a reversible jersey (color and style voted on by each team). The jersey’s cost approximately $25.00.

I WOULD LIKE TO COACH MY CHILD’S TEAM. WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?

Parents wanting to coach must fill out a few forms from ARD and clear a live scan check with the Department of Justice prior to coaching or contacting players. Parents who wish to volunteer to help as a team mom, scorekeeper, etc., must fill out a supplemental volunteer form (available at ARD).

WHAT IF I HAVEN’T HEARD FROM A COACH BY THE TIME PRACTICES START (DECEMBER 3)?

Please contact Sports Coordinator/ARD-YDL League Director Jerry Fisher at (530) 863-4612.
