Youth Classes

Auburn Rec youth classes introduce kids to new ideas and fun hobbies. Programs for grade schoolers promote independence and responsibility, enhancing their sports abilities, creative skills and encourages them to have social interactions and fun.

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT BASKETBALL LEAGUE (YDL)

The eight-game season emphasizes skill development, team work and sportsmanship. We will have inner-league play with selective grade divisions with Bear River P&R.

AGE  Grades 2-8

LOCATION  Auburn, Loomis, Meadow Vista, Colfax, Weimar Hills, Sierra Hills, Foresthill, Newcastle, Penryn & other Foothill schools ARD and Magnolia Gyms.

FEE  $160 / $150 resident $170 / $160 resident (late registration, if space is available) Registration 8/1-10/27. Late registration after 10/27 and will be waitlisted and accepted on a space available (first come, first served) basis.

NOTE  Practices will not start before 12/1. One 60-minute practice per team, per week; games will begin1/9/2027.

MIGHTY MITES BASKETBALL

This coach guided-discovery parent/child class will give you an opportunity to help your child develop movement skills while socializing with other preschool tots. Join us in the challenging program that introduces your pre-school child to fun eye- to-hand and eye-to-foot activities. This is a very popular program and tends to fill up quickly, so don’t delay registering your child for this very fun-damental introduction to the game of basketball.

ARCHERY AFTER SCHOOL SESSIONS

Our focus is teaching and providing archery in a safe environment, Our indoor range is a great place to learn and start the process of learning archery. All of our instructors are certified through USA Archery, fingerprinted and have completed US Safesport training.

FLYING FLUTTERBUGS

Get ready for a delightful and entertaining gymnastics experience designed especially for children 3 years old! Our fun, 45 minute gymnastics class focuses on developing motor skills and fostering friendships in a playful environment. Our 45 min classes are packed with fun as little ones build gross motor skills, explore movement, and make their first friends! BABY BALLET

We introduce the budding ballerina to the wonderful world of ballet through story, make believe, and music. Rudimentary ballet steps will be taught in an age- appropriate way.

Classic Ballet is a timeless form of dance. This class will teach form, strength, and proper moves in a fun upbeat manner.

Sun, 9/13 — Latin Fiesta

Perfect recipes to learn about cooking with Latin-inspired ingredients to prepare Homemade Cinnamon Chips, Crunchwraps (meat option) and Agua Fresca sodas. Chefs will be quite proud of this menu muy delicioso!

Sun, 10/11 — Boo to You!

Confidence building is assured, as is fun, while making Spooky Pinwheels (meat option), Creepy Pizza (meat option) and Howling Floats. Everyone at the gathering will be impressed by the Master recipes that are always successful.

Sun, 11/15 — Cookie Classics

Tea Cakes aka Mexican Wedding Cakes (no nuts) and Chocolate Crinkles (no nuts) are followed up by Chocolate Shakes — This menu is a chocolate lover’s dream come true!

Sun, 12/13 — Give It Away!

Food gifts say a chef has put a lot of thought into just the right recipes for special people. Chocolate Peanut Clusters, Holiday Cake Pops and Sierra Cocoa Mix in a Jar are dazzling and delicious — Perfectly wrapped in containers provided to go home with chefs.

Sun, 9/20 — Kitchen Fun

Starts off with Charcuterie Cups (meat option) and followed by Crazy Floats. Basic techniques and tasting for balance of ingredients are emphasized in this class.

Sun, 10/18 — Boo to You!

Seasonal Fruit Kabobs (meat option) and Howling Sparklers are easy recipes full of flavors everyone will enjoy. Professional techniques are a guarantee as is fun!

Sun, 11/22 — Cookie Classics

Chocolate dreams come true while preparing Chocolate-Drizzled Tea Cakes without nuts (aka Mexican Wedding Cakes). The menu ends with Dreamy Smoothies.

Sun, 12/6 — Give It Away!

A young chef might make food gifts for special people or serve food gifts as part of a holiday celebration. Holiday Cake Pops are fun as is Sierra Hot Cocoa Mix in a Jar. All gift décor and containers are included.

 

NOTES

  • Dietary issues can be addressed.
  • Every chef goes home with recipes from the class.
  • Hair needs to be tied up for safety concerns.
  • No open toe shoes, please, due to safety concerns.
  • Ingredient substitutions may be used due to supply issues.
  • Each class is 90 minutes of hands-on preparation and demonstration techniques.
  • Professional aprons are provided but chefs are encouraged to wear their own apron if they have one.

With over 20 of teaching cooking classes, Chef Terry Masten will share professional techniques and tips in these fast-paced classes. Young chefs will have fun while learning, guaranteed

Camps

YOGA-ART DAY CAMP

This camp is designed to motivate children to be active, build confidence, and manage the spectrum of emotions that they experience in their day-to-day lives. The children will get the opportunity to learn yoga poses, meditation, and breathing, using games and music. We do mindful arts and crafts, too!

FEE  $52 / $45 resident fee plus $10 material fee paid to instructor day of class
