ARD rolls out inaugural Skate Night on Friday, 4th Floating Egg Hunt on Saturday
The Auburn Recreation and Parks District (ARD) is scheduled to host two weekend events that will put a fun close to the spring break vacation.
ARD is hosting its first ROLLER SKATING NIGHT at Regional Park Gym, in partnership with the Auburn Outlaws roller derby team, on Friday and the community is invited to grab their skates and join in the fun. The night will include games, music and a light show, according to Mark Brunner, recreation services manager for ARD.
According to Brunner, the event pays homage to ARD’s beginnings.
“Recreation Park (gym) was once a skating rink so we’re turning Regional Park Gym into a skating rink,” he said.
Brunner said skate rentals will also be provided by Crush Roller Shop during the event. The ARD website notes non-skaters are also welcome to join the fun from the sidelines.
Roller Skate Night will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday in the Regional Park Gym, 3770 Richardson Drive. Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased at auburnrec.com/events/roller-skating-night/. Skate rentals are $6 per pair and skates can be reserved by filling out the skate rentals form on the event web page.
On Saturday, the fun moves to the pool with ARD’s fourth annual FLOATING EGG HUNT at Sierra Pool at Recreation Park from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
A thousand festive Easter eggs will be scattered through the pool. Eight participants are invited to go into the pool at a time, each with their own lane, and will have a chance to collect 10 eggs, which can be turned in for candy and prizes. Brunner said local organizations that will be handing out candy and prizes include Precision Orthodontics, Girl Scouts, Auburn Gymnastics Center, IFC, SpringHill Suites Auburn and Live Oak Waldorf School.
A golden egg will also be hidden in the pool. The child who finds the golden egg will win a bike donated by Feed the Hungry of Auburn.
Brunner confirmed the egg hunt is a rain-or-shine event and the pool is heated to 80 degrees.
The fee is $5 a family and every child will leave with a prize. After the egg hunt, families are invited to stay for games and activities. Families may register at the door. For more information, visit auburnrec.com/events/floating-egg-hunt/.
In addition to events already on the calendar, Brunner said ARD is working on a summer PARKS & BIG TRUCKS event, which will allow kids to walk the park trails and explore larger vehicles like cement mixer trucks. Brunner said vendors with trucks that fit the bill and want to participate in this event can contact him at mbrunner@auburnrec.com.
