State of the District

Welcome to another summer of fun and education at the Auburn Area Recreation and Park District. This Activity
Guide is bursting with classes, leagues, events and camps, and you are sure to find something that speaks to
your interests.
2009 finds many local governments in tight economic times, and your Recreation and Parks District is not immune
from the recent downturn. Thankfully ARD has been prudent in its protection of its finances, and we feel
confident that we will be able to weather this storm. Over the last three years we have created and funded several
reserve funds that will aid us in our efforts to continue providing great services to the residents in our district.
While we have made cuts to the 2009/2010 budget, we firmly believe that our users will notice very little
change in the services and facilities provided by the District. Most of the cuts were small, and many of them
dealt with our continuing efforts to improve the efficiency of our operations. As always, the staff at ARD will be
working diligently to keep our parks and facilities safe, clean and user friendly. If you have any questions or
comments, feel free to stop by, call or send us an e-mail.
A quick heads up for this fall – ARD is planning on adding a ¾ mile loop pathway around Recreation Park at approximately
the same time we are planning on remodeling the locker rooms and lifeguard house at Sierra Pool.
These two exciting projects will make a big difference in the enjoyment of this wonderful park. Keep an eye out
for construction starting in September.
