With promises to get dirty, muddy and wet, the Auburn Area Recreation and Parks District (ARD) is hosting the Great Auburn Obstacle Race on Sunday at Regional Park.

The 5k fun run features a myriad of obstacles, including (but not limited to) a foam tunnel, maze, tire run, pond crossing in a raft, wall climbs, weighted sled pull, a creek crossing, over and under and a mud pit.

Each year, the course is changed to make the race fun and challenging.

“This race is a perfect place for first-timers, and seasoned obstacle racers will be challenged throughout,” the ARD website on the event stated.

Registration is open through 9 p.m. Saturday, but spots are filling fast, said Kahl Muscott, ARD Administrator.

“If you have never tried our 5k course, this is a great time to give it a run,” Muscott said in an email to the Auburn Journal. “The course features 20-plus obstacles, including a bubble tunnel, rope ladder, the infamous pumpkin pi(p)e and of course the ever-popular mud pit.”

With the race being for anyone 8 and over, the event is perfect for families and racers even compete in teams.

The race starts at 9 a.m. Oct. 1 at Regional Park, 3770 Richardson Drive. For more information or to register, visit auburnrec.com/events/great-auburn-obstacle-race.
